About this event

The Ibiza Congress Centre will host the play Tosca on 8 February. This show is part of the Ministry of Culture's Platea programme and is included in the City Council's performing arts cycle scheduled for the first four months of 2025.

Tosca is an opera in three acts, with music by Giacomo Puccini and libretto in Italian by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. It was first performed in Rome on 14 January 1900 and has since become one of the most performed operas. Along with Madama Butterfly and La bohème, it forms Puccini's best-known trio of operas.

Considered one of the most representative operas of the Italian repertoire, this work contains great dramatic intensity and some of the most beautiful arias in the repertoire, such as Vissi d'arte (for Tosca) and E lucevan le stelle (for Mario). The action takes place in Rome in 1800 during the Napoleonic wars. The historical and political background serves as the basis for the plot, which combines love, intrigue, violence, passion and death, and turns this work into a great tragic melodrama.

The performance will be given by the Compañía Lírica y Orquesta Martín i Soler with 18 performers on stage. Tickets cost €20 plus booking fee at www.bacantix.com and €25 at the box office on the day of the performance.
